Comedian Actor Writer Host Big Mouth

An Appraisal: Sherwood Schwartz’s Modern Families

By Judy Gold

Sherwood Schwartz passed away Tuesday at the ripe old age of 94. Sherwood Schwartz might be one of those names that you recognize, but you can’t remember from where. He created two of the most beloved sitcoms of the 1960s and 70s – “Gilligan’s Island” and “The Brady Bunch.” You may write these off as shlock, just like the critics did, but I’m sure you can recite the theme songs – both written by Schwartz, himself. He always said, “Tell them everything they need to know in the theme song.”
